About Replacing Car Registration in Nevada

To replace a damaged, stolen or lost car registration in Nevada, you may submit your request to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) either online, in person, by mail or fax. If you want to replace a lost vehicle registration credential in person, you may be able to complete the process at a self-service kiosk.

To learn more about these application methods and the steps you must take to replace your DMV registration card, sticker or license plates, review the sections below.

Getting a Duplicate Registration in Nevada

The most convenient way to replace car registration materials is to submit your request online. In order to do so, however, you will need a credit card or electronic check. If you wish to pay the fee with a check or money order instead, you may request your DMV copy of registration in person, by mail or by fax.

If your vehicle’s license plates were stolen, you will need to order replacement plates in person at a local DMV office. When replacing a stolen license plate, you may choose to complete a vehicle registration renewal for a full year.

You can find more information on how to order a duplicate registration in this free guide.

Online

You may be wondering, “Can you print your car registration online in NV?” If you have a credit card or electronic check for the duplicate car registration fee, you may order and print your replacement registration online.

You will also need your driver’s license number and vehicle identification number (VIN). If you need to replace a license plate decal and registration certificate, however, you will receive your replacement credentials in the mail.

In Person

To purchase a copy of registration in person, you must visit a local DMV office to submit a completed application, as well as payment for the applicable fee and valid proof of car insurance.

As another option, some DMV offices allow you to purchase a replacement credential at a self-service kiosk. To order your auto registration replacement credentials at a kiosk, you will need a VIN, the last four digits of its license plate number, a current address and your Nevada driver’s license number.

By Mail or Fax

To purchase your replacement car registration by mail or fax, you must forward a completed application, proof of car insurance and payment for the fee to the DMV’s Central Services Unit.

When replacing a lost registration credential by mail or fax, you must also submit a Payment Authorization Form if you wish to pay the application fee with a credit card.
