Replacing a Lost Car Registration in Idaho in Person
Many motorists wonder, “Can you print your car registration online?” Although many vehicle-related tasks are available online in Idaho, printing a duplicate registration is not one of them.
You must replace car registration documents in person. This process entails visiting your nearest DMV office and bringing some of the following items:
- Idaho driver’s license or state-issued ID card
- Your vehicle identification number (VIN) and other vehicle information
- Payment for a new ID copy of your registration cards, tags or stickers
If you do not have a lost registration but, instead, a card or tag that is damaged, you must also replace it as soon as possible. When you apply for your replacement car registration materials, be sure to turn in any damaged or faded registration cards, plates or stickers.
Car registration replacement fees may vary depending on which items you need to replace. Since acceptable forms of payment may vary by location, it is important to call before heading to your county DMV office.
Note: You may not need a duplicate car registration if you are close to the end of your current registration period. Ask the DMV clerk if you can complete the registration renewal process instead. Doing so will save you a few dollars on replacement fees.

Must I file a police report if I have a stolen copy of my registration?
If you need a new DMV copy of registration because your original registration materials were stolen, it may be a good idea to file a police report.
Although this step is not required in Idaho, a police report can help protect you from identity theft.
Moreover, it can serve as proof that you are not responsible for any fraudulent use of your registration documents.
