How to Renew Car Registration in Montana
You must apply for car registration renewal in Montana every 12 or 24 months, unless your vehicle is eligible for permanent registration credentials. If you permanently register your passenger car, truck or minivan with the Montana Vehicle Services Bureau (VSB), the registration will not need to be renewed unless there is a change in ownership.
If you receive a renewal notice from the Montana VSB, it will provide you with specific instructions for completing the application process before its expiration. However, even if you have not received a renewal notice, you may still be responsible for renewing your registration.
To apply for VSB registration renewal in MT, you may complete the process online if your address is current with the VSB and you do not need to make any changes to your vehicle’s registration record. If you are not eligible for online renewal, you must apply through your local County Treasurer’s office.
