How to Change Your Name on Your Wyoming Registration
You must change the name on your car registration in Wyoming whenever your legal name changes due to a major life event, such as marriage or divorce.
Whenever your name changes and no longer matches the information on your original vehicle registration application, you must remember to notify the treasurer’s office in the county in which you live.
Before you can change your car registration information, however, you must update your name with the Social Security Administration (SSA) first.
By law, you must update the name on your Wyoming driver’s license within 10 days of changing your legal name.

Before changing the name on your car registration and driver’s license credentials, you must notify the SSA.
To do so, you must mail or bring the following documents to your local Social Security office:

- Proof of your name change
- Proof of identity and U.S. citizenship status

After the SSA updates your name in its database, you may correct the information on your DMV credentials.
Note: Performing a name change on your car registration credentials will not update the information on your Wyoming driver’s license. To update your driver’s license, you must visit a Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) driver exam office to submit your request in person.
How to Perform a DMV Name Change in Wyoming
To change the name on your car registration, you must visit the treasurer’s office in the county where you live. During your office visits, you will typically need to provide some of the following items:
- Your current driver’s license or registration card
- Legal proof of your name change
- A new signature for your Wyoming driver’s license
- Payment for the required fee, if applicable
Note: If you need to purchase a certified copy of your name change prior to updating your driver’s license and registration records, you must contact the Office of Vital Statistics Services under the Wyoming Department of Health.
