How to Change Your Address on Your West Virginia Registration

Performing a West Virginia DMV change of address is an important step that you must complete whenever you move from one part of the state to another.

You must change car registration address information after moving into a new home or changing your mailing address, or you risk not receiving future correspondence from the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

In most cases, you can easily update your DMV information online, in person or by mail.

When you change the address on your vehicle registration credentials in person or by mail, the West Virginia DMV will simultaneously update your driver records as well.

However, you will not receive a replacement registration card or driver’s license that displays your new address unless you purchase one in a separate transaction.

To learn more about performing an address change on car registration and driver’s license credentials, review the information below.

In Person

You must complete an official DMV change of address form in WV if you wish to update the information on your records.

To do so, bring your photo ID and completed application to your local DMV office.

After submitting your application, the DMV will update the address on your driver and vehicle registration records.

By Mail

If you prefer to change your car registration address and driver’s license information by mail, you must forward your documents to the DMV’s Record Section in Charleston.

Keep in mind that there is no fee to submit your request by mail.

How to Update Online

To submit your change of address online in WV, you must visit the DMV’s website to provide your contact information and new street address.

Then, provide vehicle information, such as your vehicle’s identification number (VIN) and license plate number.

When submitting your request online, please note that the DMV will not update the information on your driver’s license records.

To simultaneously update the address on your driver’s license and vehicle registration records, you must apply in person or by mail.
