Address Change on a Car Registration in Pennsylvania
Remembering to apply for a Pennsylvania DMV change of address is crucial if you own and operate a motor vehicle. Failure to keep your address current with the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) may result in the loss of important mail, such as future registration renewal notices.
As such, submitting a DMV change of address form to PennDOT is one of the first steps you must take after moving to a new home or changing your mailing address.
To change your car registration address, you must submit your request online or by mail, depending on whichever method you prefer.
Note: If you serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and move outside of Pennsylvania with your registered motor vehicle, however, you must submit your request by mail and meet several additional requirements.

How to Perform an Address Change on Car Registration in Pennsylvania
You may apply for a change of address online or by mail if you are moving within the state of Pennsylvania and you need to update your vehicle registration records with PennDOT.
Under state law, you must report your new address to PennDOT within 15 days from the date on which your address changed, regardless of whether you move within Pennsylvania or outside of the state.

How to Update Online
If you wish to change your vehicle registration address information online, you may do so by logging into PennDOT’s online portal. To log in, you must be able to provide several vehicle details, including your vehicle’s license plate number and title number.
If purchasing a replacement registration card and title certificate, you must also provide a credit card number as payment for the duplicate credential.
By Mail
When changing car registration address information by mail, you must complete an application before forwarding it to PennDOT’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch in Harrisburg.
When submitting your request by mail, you can change the addresses of up to two PennDOT customers at once. You must be able to provide some of the following information:
- Driver’s license numbers
- Full names
- Birth dates of each registered vehicle owner

How to Change My Car Registration Address in Pennsylvania if Moving Out of State
If you wish to perform an address change on registration credentials but you are moving outside of Pennsylvania, you must mail a self-certification form to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles office in Harrisburg.
Typically, you can only change your PennDOT address to an out-of-state address if you qualify for an exemption. Allowable exemptions include if:
- You or an immediate family member works for the federal government.
- You or your spouse is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces.
- You wish to update the registration record of a Park Model Trailer that permanently resides in Pennsylvania
