About Changing Your Address on Your Minnesota Registration
If you need a DMV change of address in Minnesota, you may choose to update your information right after moving. However, state law does not require you to update your address immediately after you move. Therefore, you mind find it easier to update your credentials during your car registration renewal.
You can change your car registration address in person or by mail. Keep in mind that even if you wait to update your vehicle registration records, the Division of Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) requires you to update your driver’s license address within 30 days of moving. If you do not change your address on your Minnesota license, you may not receive important DVS mail.

How do I change my car registration address in Minnesota?
To request an address change on registration materials, you must first update your mailing information with the United States Postal Service (USPS). You may change your USPS address online or in person at a local post office facility. If you do so online, you will need to pay a small fee. After changing your address with USPS, you may update the information on your driver’s license and vehicle registration credentials.
Minnesota law requires you to correct the information on your driver’s license within one month of changing your address, but you can wait until you renew your registration to update your address on vehicle records.
In Person
You cannot submit your change of address online in MN, as the state DVS requires you to update the address on your registration records either in person or by mail. To submit your request in person, you must visit a local Deputy Registrar office. During your visit, you may renew your vehicle’s registration credentials at the same time.
By Mail
To submit your MN DMV change of address form by mail, you must follow the instructions on your annual registration renewal notice. Typically, you will need to return the completed portion of the renewal notice to the address printed on the form.
