About Changing Your Address on Your Kansas Registration
The Kansas Department of Revenue (DOR) requires drivers to submit a DMV change of address after moving to another home or using a different mailing address. Having the correct address on file is necessary to avoid missing car registration renewal notices. It can also prevent confusion when performing other vehicle-related tasks.
You must update your Kansas driver’s license or identification card before getting an address change on car registration documents. You can complete your driver’s license change of address online, but the DOR requires you to change your registration address in person. When is a Kansas DMV change of address necessary?
There are several scenarios when you may need to submit a DMV change of address form to the Kansas DOR. Each time you move to a new home within the state, you should update the DOR with your new address as soon as possible.
Even if you do not move to a new home or apartment, you may decide to have your registration renewal notices sent to another address. If so, provide the DOR with your new preferred mailing address.
If you are close to the end of your current registration period when you move, you may be able to complete two tasks at once. Ask your local city tag clerk if you can change car registration address information when you apply for your registration renewal.
How can I change my car registration address in Kansas?
“Where can I change my car registration address?” is a common question. Getting an address change on registration in Kansas is usually a quick and easy process. Simply go to your nearest county tag office and provide one of the following:
- Updated KS driver’s license
- Updated KS identification card
- Official piece of mail
Acceptable pieces of mail for a DOR change of address must be printed with your new home address. Examples include a phone bill, gas bill, electric bill, bank statement or mortgage statement.
