About Changing the Address on Your Delaware Registration

You must perform a DMV change of address in Delaware within one month of moving, relocating or changing your address.

If you do not change your car registration address information in a timely manner, you may not receive future renewal notices from the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and other important correspondence from the Department.

To update your address with the Delaware DMV, you can typically submit your request online, in person or by mail. Online requests are typically the quickest and most convenient, but you are free to choose whichever method suits you best.

Explore the steps to update your address with the Delaware DMV by reviewing the information below.

How can I change my car registration address in Delaware?

By law, you must perform an address change on car registration credentials within 30 days, or you could begin to incur penalty fees.

As such, it is important to notify the division as soon as you move into a new home, relocate to a different part of the state or change your address for any other reason.

Fortunately, the Delaware DMV provides you with three simple submission methods for updating the address on your vehicle registration records.

Note: When changing your address, you have the option of requesting a duplicate car registration card that displays your new address.

Applying Online

You may submit your Delaware change of address online if you hold a state-issued driver’s license or identification card.

You must also be able to login to the DMV’s online portal. If you do not currently have an account, you must create one by providing your date of birth, the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN) and a driver’s license or identification card number.

If you cannot provide this information, you must change your vehicle registration address by mail or in person at a local DMV office.

By Mail

You must complete an official DMV change of address form if you wish to submit your request by mail rather than online.

To do so, you must provide some key information, including your name, date of birth, driver’s license number and contact information.

The next and final step is forwarding all documents to the state’s Change of Address Division in Dover.

In Person

To perform an in-person address change on registration credentials, visit any local DMV office to submit your request.

With your request, submit a completed application that includes your full name, address and contact information.

In some situations, you may need to present proof of residency as well.
