How to Change Your Address on Your Kentucky Registration

You must submit a Kentucky DMV change of address request to your local county clerk’s office whenever your mailing address changes. If you do not change car registration address information whenever you move from one part of Kentucky to another, you may not receive information pertaining to your driver’s license and license plates, including renewal notices.

How to Perform an Address Change on Car Registration in Kentucky

To perform an address change on registration records, you must visit a county clerk’s office near you to submit your request in person. During your office visit, you must submit several items to prove your new address. 

Acceptable documents include a recent piece of mail or utility bill. To update the address on your registration credentials, you may also need to submit your certificate of title for the vehicle.

Depending on where in Kentucky you live, you may be able to submit your request online to avoid a visit to your local county clerk’s office. In Boone County, for instance, you can update the address on your registration credentials by submitting an online request. 

When submitting an online DMV change of address form in Kentucky, you must be able to provide some of the following information:

  • The vehicle identification number (VIN) and license plate number of your registered automobile
  • Your full name and contact information
  • Your mailing address
