About Changing Your Address on Your Georgia Registration

Submitting a Georgia DMV change of address request to the state Department of Revenue (DOR) is one of the steps you must take after your address changes. However, you must first change your address with the United States Postal Service (USPS) and update the address on your Georgia driver’s license or identification card. After doing so, you must change car registration address information with the Georgia DOR.

To update the information on your vehicle registration credentials, you may submit your request online or in person, depending on whichever method you prefer. To learn more about the steps you must take to update the address on your registration records, review the sections below.

How can I change my car registration address in Georgia?

Before submitting your GA DMV change of address form to the DOR, you must change your address with USPS and the State Department of Driver Services (DDS). To change your address with USPS, you may submit your request online in person at a local post office.

If you submit your change of address request online, you must pay a small fee to validate your identity. However, there is no fee to change your address in person at a local post office branch.

After changing your address with the USPS, you must contact the Georgia DDS to update the information on your state-issued driver’s license or identification card. To change address on your Georgia driver’s license or ID card, you may submit your request online or in person at a DDS Customer Service Center.

Next, you can perform an address change on car registration credentials by submitting your request directly to the Georgia DOR. Depending on your preferred method, you may submit your request online or in person.

Performing an Address Change on Registration in Georgia

To apply for a change of address online or in person, you must be able to provide the Georgia DOR with several important pieces of information about yourself and your registered motor vehicle.

Updating Online

To change your address online in GA, you must be able to verify your identity by providing a state ID or your driver’s license number. If you cannot provide a driver’s license number, you can find your Letter ID by referring to any previously issued notice from the DOR.

When changing your car registration address, you must also be able to identify your registered car by providing its vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate number.

If you cannot provide this information, you must visit a tag office in the county where you live to submit your request in person.

After changing your vehicle registration address with the Georgia DOR, you may choose to reprint a replacement registration card so that it displays your new address. However, reprinting a registration card after you change your address is voluntary.

In Person

If you cannot change your DOR address online or you prefer to submit your request in person, you must visit a tag office in the county where you live. Be sure to bring proof of identity.

While the state does not require you to purchase a replacement registration card after your address changes, you may choose to obtain a duplicate registration credential that displays your new address.
