About Changing Your Address on Your Arizona Car Registration
Requesting an Arizona DMV change of address with the state Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) is one of the first steps you must take after moving into a new home.
Under Arizona law, you must change your car registration address and update your license within 10 days of moving to a new residence. When you update your MVD driver record, you will automatically update your vehicle records as well.
When you submit a DMV change of address request in AZ, you must be able to provide your current and former address. Additionally, you must provide personal information to verify your identity, such as your driver’s license or state-issued identification number.
Depending on the situation, you may need to provide additional information as well. To learn more about the process for updating your driver and vehicle records in Arizona, review the information below.
Applying for an Arizona Address Change on a Car Registration
You can apply for a change of address online in Arizona or complete the process by email or phone, depending on your preference.
If the vehicle is titled in the name of a business or trust, however, you must visit a local MVD office or authorized third-party provider to submit your request in person.
The sections below explain the application methods and the information you must submit along with your request.
Updating Your Address Online
You may be wondering, “How can I change my car registration address online?” To do so, you must access the MVD’s online portal and provide your personal information, including your full name, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).
Once you change your vehicle registration address, you can order a duplicate registration card or driver’s license that displays your new address. However, doing so is voluntary, and you must pay a small fee if you do choose to order a replacement at that time.
Once you update your information online, the MVD will automatically correct the address on your driver and vehicle records, eliminating the need to complete these two transactions separately.
By Email or Phone
To perform an address change on your registration and driving credentials, you may also choose to contact the MVD directly. To do so, you may send the MVD an email or contact the division by phone.
When reporting your address change to the MVD, you must be able to provide your Arizona driver’s license number along with the registered vehicle’s license plate number or vehicle identification number (VIN). After submitting your request, the MVD will update the address on your driver and registration records.
Why You Need an Arizona DMV Change of Address
If you do not apply for an MVD change of address after moving from one part of Arizona to another, you may not receive future updates and reminder notices from the division. This includes documents like registration renewal notices.
Additionally, you cannot complete the steps to renew your vehicle’s registration unless your current address is on file with the MVD.
Moreover, failure to change the address on your driver and vehicle records may result in penalty fees and traffic tickets.
In Arizona, you may receive a traffic citation if you do not update your address with the MVD within 10 days from the date on which your mailing or residential address changed.
