How to Renew Car Registration in Minnesota
You must apply for a car registration renewal in Minnesota each year before your vehicle’s registration tabs expire. Driving an automobile with expired validation stickers may result in late fees and fines if a police officer stops you. As such, it is important to renew your tabs as soon as you receive a renewal notice from the Minnesota Division of Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS).
Your DVS registration renewal notice will provide you with specific instructions for renewing your credentials, as well as information about the fees you must pay. However, even if you do not receive a notice, you are still responsible for renewing your Minnesota registration.
You may complete your annual tag renewal online, in person or by mail. While online renewal is usually the quickest and most convenient method, you may wish to apply in person if your tabs are due to expire within the next few days.
